Sacrificing one life to save another

Mike Magnus nails the hypocrisy in his letter to the editor:

Letters from readers: "It worked once before

President Bush has made his position clear when it comes to embryonic stem cell research that he will not sacrifice one life to save another.

Maybe to better fight these diseases, a branch of the government needs to overstate the dangers of Alzheimer's or Parkinson's or diabetes. Then the executive branch can be fooled into declaring war against these diseases, and Congress can enact legislation to enable a draft of embryos to fight this battle.

Then maybe President Bush could justify sacrificing one life for another -- oh wait, he has already done this. Our troops are already being sacrificed in an unjust war for reasons far less noble than ending curable diseases.

Mike Magnus, Bloomington."
